The XVA file extension relates to the XenServer, a server virtualization platform. The XVA file stores data for XenServer in the Xen Virtual Appliance file format. To open XVA files, use the XenServer software.
The XVA format and XenServer program were developed by Citrix Systems. XVA files are text files with an XML structure. They store the state of an entire virtual machine – including all files and configurations.
XVA files were originally for XenServer but are also supported by VMware vSphere. However, some major virtualization providers like Microsoft Hyper-V do not support the format.
If an XVA file seems problematic, obtain another copy from the source. The file may have errors from erroneous copying or interrupted downloading that preclude access.
To open an XVA file in Windows, the filename extension must be associated with XenServer in the registry. Some files contain simple text data that can be viewed directly. Our tools help convert and view XVA files.
