The wdb file extension is used in Microsoft Works, a discontinued office suite by Microsoft. Wdb files contain Microsoft Works databases. The default database format of Works is wdb. Wdb files are application/vnd.ms-works and application/vnd.ms-works-db MIME types. This file type is obsolete and no longer supported.
WDB is also used by Blizzard’s World of Warcraft for database files. These files contain game data downloaded from servers. They may store information about items, creatures, NPCs, and quests. Examples are creaturecache.wdb and questcache.wdb.
WDB files are created by World of Warcraft to cache chunks of data. The data inside is ordered from first to last downloaded. The format has a 16 byte header for pre-1.6 files and 20 bytes for post-BC files.
