The VMEM file extension is for VMware virtual machine’s paging data. It is associated with VMware Workstation. The virtual machine’s paging vmem file contains backup of the guest main memory. You may see VMEM files when the VM has crashed. You can delete them unless you want to examine. The VMEM filename is the VM name. It may have snapshot numbers. VMEM files belong to VMware Workstation. They store virtual machine memory dumps. After stopping, VMEM files are deleted unless the VM crashes. Then they stay on the host system.
