VIB files are VMware vSphere Installation Bundle Packages. They are used to update ESXi hosts or add bundles to ESXi images. VIB files should not be opened directly. To install a VIB file use vSphere Update Manager (VUM) or the ESXCLI command. Multiple VIB files may be packaged together in software bundles or depots.
VIB files are supported by Windows applications. The most popular program handling VIB files is ChemSoft DMS. VIB is a special format that should only be edited or saved with appropriate software. To solve problems with VIB files, update your software or associate VIB files with the correct application.
You can install individual VIB files by specifying the path with the “-v” parameter in ESXCLI. Or install a depot of VIB files using the “-d” parameter. Depots come in zip format with multiple VIB files, used for host updates.
