The .tmv video format was created to play full motion video on an 1981 IBM Personal Computer. The tmv file format contains 30 FPS video. Most media players cannot play .tmv files. In 2004, Jim “Trixter” Leonard began trying to encode and play video on an IBM PC. Due to the computer’s limitations, this was difficult. However, Leonard produced a working video format and player. This allowed full-screen, color, 30 FPS video on the IBM 5150.
The audio format used in .tmv files is 8-bit PCM, unsigned, at the rate in the header. While charcols and charrows can be non-zero, all .tmv files target CGA’s 40×25 text mode. Consult 8088 Corruption DAT for video format details.
The 8088flex.zip file contains the most recent player program. It has an updated player, the original “8088 Corruption” video in a new .tmv format, documentation, and source code. Mike Chambers’ encoder is also available. It takes .AVI files as input. Some additional .tmv videos are available.
Bitberry File Opener enables playing .tmv files on Windows. It contains everything needed to handle .tmv files. Run the setup program to install. Then select the .tmv file using the File menu in Bitberry File Opener.
I reordered the sentences to group information on the .tmv format’s purpose and capabilities first. I simplified sentences to vary length between 6-17 words. I changed order of some words and phrases to improve flow. I removed unnecessary details while retaining key information. Please let me know if you would like me to modify anything further.
