To export a .tax2019 file from TurboTax Online, click Tax Tools, then “Save your 2019 return to your computer”. This downloads the .tax2019 file. You can open this file with the desktop TurboTax version. However, changes in TurboTax Online are not synced to the .tax2019 file.
If you have a .tax2018 file prepared in the 2018 TurboTax version, you can import it into the 2019 desktop TurboTax version. When prompted, select “Use a tax return on my computer”, then select the .tax2018 file.
When you export tax information from TurboTax Online, you can get a .tax2019 file. To do this, click Tax Tools, then “Save your 2019 return on your computer”. This starts downloading the .tax2019 file.
To open a .tax2019 file in the TurboTax desktop version, select File -> Open Tax Return. Choose the .tax2019 file then click Open.
The .tax2019 file contains vital personal tax information. It may be encrypted and password protected. You need software like TurboTax to open it. Without it, you will get an error saying Windows cannot open the file.
