The desktop TaxAct app creates TA0 files. You save progress as you fill a 1040 tax form. Then reopen the TA0 file to keep working. Files save to My Documents\TaxAct2020 by default. Once done, print and mail forms or file electronically. People make these between January-April for the prior year taxes. The TA0 file replaced the 2019 .TA9 file from the 2020 TaxAct version. Select “File → Backup…” to back up in case of issues.
Double-check the file extension if solutions don’t open the file. The extension may be misspelled or changed by accident. This makes files unrecognizable. The TA0 extension could be wrong, some are similar.
