Companies Texas Instruments and Teradyne jointly developed the SVF standard. Control of the format was handed to ASSET InterTech. Revisions go up to Revision E.

To review multiple models without taxing computer memory, designers can combine models into an .svf file. Then they can quickly load and unload .vue files as needed. The .svf file is created by Smart Review to reference multiple .vue files.
Smart Review uses several files. .dgn files are opened in Smart Review. A .dri file references multiple .dgn files. For example, model.dri references pipe, equipment, and other design files. These are created by plant design applications.
The .svf format saves summary status data for System Center. It contains graphics objects from multiple .vue files in Smart Review 3D software. SmartVersion saves multiple versions of a file to an .svf container.
