Storyboard files have the .storyboard file extension. They are meant to be opened in Apple Xcode on Mac. Storyboards provide a visual interface to connect views in iOS apps without writing code. To create one, developers select “Storyboard” in Xcode when making an iOS project. Xcode makes a main.storyboard file. Developers can also manually add storyboards later.
If you have problems opening a .storyboard file, you may need to update the application you normally use. Only the newest versions support the format. You can also scan the file for viruses with antivirus software to fix issues.
On Windows, right click a .storyboard file then click “Open with”>”Choose another app.” Select a different program and check “Always use this app for .storyboard files.” On Mac, right click the file, click “Open with”>”Other…” Pick another app and check “Always open with.”
Over 1,200 file types use the .storyboard extension but most are not compatible. Apple created the format for Interface Builder Storyboard Documents. The files were likely made with Xcode. Make sure to use the right software to open or convert them.
