The STI file stores SampleTank instrument data. SampleTank software combines a sampler, synthesizer, and effects into a virtual instrument. When saving a SampleTank instrument, an STI file is created along with associated STH, STW, and STIP files. These files are key to recreating the instrument sound. STI files are not meant to be manually opened.
Be careful with .sti files. Other programs besides SampleTank could create .sti files for various purposes, including malware. Know that the .sti extension is used beyond just SampleTank.
To create an STI file, edit sounds in SampleTank. Click “Save” in the Instrument area. Name the instrument and click OK. This saves a STIP file and related STI, STH, and STW files. All files are named after the instrument and located together.
