The sth file extension is related to Lotus Domino, an enterprise application platform from IBM. Files with sth extension contain securely stored passwords for a Lotus Domino keyring. These files are created when a new server key is generated.
A STH file belongs to the Encoded Files category developed by IBM for the Lotus Domino platform. STH files can be viewed on Windows. Popular programs for this format are HCL Notes and Lotus Domino.
To create a STH file, edit your sound in the application, click SAVE in the User Preset area, name your sound, and click OK. This creates a STIP file which also creates the STH file in the folder of its “Parent Sound.”
The STH file extension stores passwords for the Lotus Keyring file, used to provide secure access for Lotus Notes to the Lotus Domino server. These files are created automatically when the server key is generated and must be stored on both the client and server for the client’s Lotus Notes application to appropriately access the server.
STH files are critical for the Lotus Domino system stability and recovery. They contain replication information, configuration settings, security parameters, and other data to restore Domino after disruptions.
The STH file extension is commonly associated with Lotus Domino Stash Format files developed by IBM. STH files can be used by programs distributed for Windows. The recommended software for managing STH files is Lotus Domino, although other programs can also handle this file type.

The STH data files relate to SampleTank, a software sampler, synthesizer, and effects processor. The STH file is a SampleTank User Instrument Header. To create a STH file, edit your sound in SampleTank. Click “Save” in the User Preset area, name your sound, and click “OK”. This creates a STIP file which also creates the STH file in the “Parent Sound” folder. The STH, STI, STW, and STIP files will be named after the instrument.
An Instrument consists of one KeyMap with two “Oscillators,” which reference mono or stereo samples. The .STW file contains only sample data, no other information. SampleTank 2 introduced the .stip file to store Presets based on .sth/sti/stw combinations. You can make multiple .stip files per .sth/sti/stw set.
SampleTank lacks a real editor, although SampleTank 2 permits overriding macro-style parameter editing. You cannot view the full structure layout. For proper processing, reproduction and management the .STW file should stay in the same folder as associated .STIP, .STI and .STH files. The .STW audio samples should not be opened manually.
