Vectorworks ships with templates, including Blank.sta and Default.sta files. Default template sets file settings that open when launching new Vectorworks session. It can be customized with attributes and styles. Blank.sta file opens empty.

To create template: Start with blank file. Save as *.sta with recognizable name. Although saved as template, picture still saved as *.mcd file.

Workspace set-ups predefined by Vectorworks accessed from “File” menu. “Architect” workspace used for course. Look under “File”, “Workspaces” to see range available – try selecting few to see how workspace changes.

Click “File”, “Save as template” – note template has *.sta extension. Save with name like A4 landscape 1 to 50.sta. Although saved as template, picture still saved as *.mcd file – check window header.

What is an STA file? STA files mostly belong to Abaqus/CAE by Dassault Systèmes. CAE creates .inp file you can edit, run or submit jobs from within CAE.
