Project files have the .sb3 extension. Sprite files have the .sprite3 extension. The MIME type of .sb3 files is application/x.scratch.sb3. An .sb3 file contains one JSON file representing the project, project.json. Backdrops, costumes and sounds are stored as files with names starting with MD5 checksums.
Sprite files contain a sprite.json representing the sprite. The JSON is encoded as an object table. Each sprite file also contains a stage object. The contents are written in text format. It contains character actions and image references to simulate motions and animations.
To open a sprite file, suitable software like Scratch is needed. Without it, alerts about being unable to open the file appear. Right-click or long-press the file and choose “Open with” to select an application.
Sprites display characters and animations. Actions run when input occurs or events happen. Bitmaps perform animations using sprites. Programs opening or referencing sprite files include Scratch.
Sprite files can be bitmaps from RISC OS. View them with Ovation Pro. Conversion is not possible. File extension problems can happen if the extension is misspelled or changed. Scan files with antivirus before opening.
