An SML file contains a slideshow or audiovisual presentation. It is created using the Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL), a markup code similar to HTML. SMIL was developed by the Synchronized Multimedia (SYMM) Working Group. SML files reference multimedia like streaming audio and video files. They are used to create choreographed presentations.
SML files are often seen with a .SMIL extension instead. Common programs that open SML files are QuickTime and RealPlayer. Interactive presentations stored as SML files can be played in these programs.
A problem with SML files is incorrectly associating them with the right program. Double clicking the SML file icon may open it in an unusual application. To remedy this, first check if programs like Ambulant Player are installed. If not, install an appropriate program that supports SML files. Then set this as the default application for SML files.
Other issues could prevent opening SML files too. The file may be corrupted. If problems persist after installing an SML-compatible program and setting file associations, the file itself may be damaged.
