To developers of MIDI software: Be aware another Scala file type exists for mapping key/note numbers to scale degrees, called a keyboard mapping, with file extension .kbm. Support for keyboard mapping files is necessary for musical usability.
A user can choose required character set. But files intended for inclusion in the archive should be ISO 8859-1 ‘Latin-1’ or ASCII subset.
The scale archive is freely downloadable. See listing for description of each scale file. Scales are available at: http://www.huygens-fokker.org/docs/scales.zip.
An SCL file may define a musical scale in Scala format. It contains text defining included scale notes. Users can export created scales as SCL files for synthesizers.
Scala allows experimenting with musical tunings and exporting tuning data to synthesizers in MIDI or SCL format. Typically, an SCL file begins with name comment. First non-comment line describes the scale. Second line defines number of scale notes.
SCL files belong to Scala by Manuel Op de Coul. They are Chord Diagram Library files used by Sibelius music notation software for scores and playback. Main Usage: File contains chord diagrams and finger placements for instruments like guitar and trumpet. Furthermore, SCL files can be shared for accessing multiple instruments’ scores for a melody.
Inability to open SCL file does not necessarily mean lack of appropriate software. There may be other problems blocking Scala Scale file operation, like:
– Corruption of opened SCL file
– Incorrect registry entry links to SCL file
– Accidental SCL description deletion from Windows registry
– Incomplete installation of SCL supporting application
– Opened SCL file malware infection
SCL files are Scala Scale Data for Huygens Fokker Scala music tuning software experimentation. For SCL format and Scala information, visit manufacturer website.
To open SCL files, they must be loaded by Scala program itself. Files can be edited by text editors and saved with .scl extension for Scala.
