reStructuredText (RST) is a plaintext markup syntax used primarily for Python documentation. RST contains markup symbols. When processed, symbols are transformed into text formatting. For example, bulleted lists are written with dashes. When processed, dashes become visible bulleted lists.
RST is designed for extensibility for specific domains. It is aimed at creating Python tools similar to Javadoc for Java. In this sense, RST is a lightweight markup language. RST is readable by programmers reading Python code.
RreStructuredText is part of the Docutils project of the Python Doc-SIG. It is processable by documentation software like Docutils.

The RST file is an Idrisi Raster Format RAW Image created by IDRISI, a GIS application. It stores a raster image representing geographical terrain captured via remote sensing. RST files are used in analyzing and visualizing spatial data. RST files describe the image content. The color table, if present uses the RST base name.
Surfer imports the RST format. IDRISI starts in the upper-left corner, advancing column by column and row by row. Idrisi grids use a RST or IMG extension along with a set of other files. . For geographic referencing, the RDC file points in the same folder as RST or the Idrisi installation. So Idrisi’s presence or absence in the operating system determines how the driver will work.
For RST files, an appropriate program needs to be installed. Once the installation is done, double-click the file icon to open RST files.
