The QAT file format belongs to the Settings Files category along with 1305 other formats. Microsoft Office software developed by Microsoft Corporation supports QAT files. On the Microsoft website more information about QAT files and Microsoft Office is available.
It is not possible to open QAT files directly. To open an unknown file type, check if it contains only text data. Many files contain simple text.
You can customize the Quick Access Toolbar in Microsoft Office by right-clicking it and selecting Customize. The QAT file was replaced by the OFFICEUI file in Microsoft Office 2010. To transfer customizations, rename “QAT” to “OFFICEUI” and place the file in the program’s directory.
The QAT extension is used by the Quick Access Toolbar, which contains customizable commands. You can move the toolbar and add command buttons to it. GAT files are associated with the Quick Access Toolbar utility but cannot be opened.
When double-clicking an unknown file, Windows checks the extension. If recognized, Windows opens the file with the associated program. Otherwise you receive a message to select an app to open the file. Over 400 formats can be viewed with File Viewer Plus.
