The PF file contains data access events recorded by the Windows Prefetcher. The Prefetcher speeds up the boot process and application loading. When an application starts, Windows uses the PF file data to load what is needed faster. The PF files are stored in Windows’ C:/Windows/Prefetch folder. This folder contains other Prefetch files too. Each PF file is named for the associated application process. The boot PF file is always named NTOSBOOT-B00DFAAD.PF. The Firefox PF file is named FIREFOX.EXE-25FC0A66.PF. PF files are not meant to be opened. Windows accesses them automatically. There are no openers or converters for PF files. We hope this explains what PF files are.
