A PBM file is a Portable Bitmap Image file, a text-based image file. This article explains what a PBM file is and how to open or convert one. A file with the PBM file extension is a Portable Bitmap Image file. PBM filename suffix is mostly used for Portable Bitmap Image files. PBM file format is compatible with software that can be installed on Linux, Mac OS, Windows system platform. Jef Poskanzer developed the PBM format as part of his Netpbm project. PBM is an intermediate format, used primarily when converting images from one format to another.
This is a black-and-white image saved in the Portable Bitmap format. It consists of a plain text header and a grid of 0s and 1s that specify the color of each of the image’s pixels. 0s represent white pixels; 1s represent black pixels. PBM file extension can be mostly found as pictures in Portable bitmap graphic format. There is one other file type using the PBM file extension – Xlib bitmap graphics. If there is no software in the system that supports files with the PBM extension, you must first download and install it.
