Files with the PAE extension are PowerArchiver Encrypted Archives. PAE is a compressed and encrypted archive format created by ConeXware for the PowerArchiver software. It is supported on Windows devices.
PAE files can be encrypted using one of five algorithms: Blowfish, DES, Triple DES, AES 128-bit or AES 256-bit. A password may be required to open them.
To open a PAE file, software that supports the format is needed. The recommended application is PowerArchiver. Other programs that can open PAE files include Windows Explorer.
If the required software is not already installed, it must first be downloaded and installed. We provide links to securely download the PowerArchiver software from the developer’s website.
Once installed, right-click on the PAE file, select “Open with” and choose the PowerArchiver application. This will associate PAE files with the software so they can be opened in the future.
The PAE format falls under the Compressed Files category, along with 236 other filename extensions. While uncommon, it has been classified for use across 1 operating system – Windows.
