This file extension has two file types: AVCHD playlist and Maple language files. AVCHD playlist files contain subtitles for media players to display text during video playback. Sony Vegas software references AVCHD playlist files for navigation and playback of video files recorded by Sony and Panasonic digital video cameras. Maple language files contain Maple syntax source code written in the Maple programming language.
Cyberlink PowerProducer, Roxio Creator, and Cyberlink PowerDVD can open AVCHD playlist files. These files are usually saved in the AVCHD/BDMV/PLAYLIST directory on the camera’s recording media. Although text editors can open them to read contents manually, programs like VLC display subtitles along with corresponding videos based on timestamps. Apps like Subtitle Edit are specifically built for editing subtitle text files.
While uncommon, HotSauce graphics files also use the MPL extension. Remember playlist files themselves are not video files, just text files for displaying text subtitles. Maple language MPL files require Maple or related software to open source code. Overall, MPL files have low popularity despite supporting Windows, Mac, Android systems.
