Files with the .menc extension are Windows Mobile Encrypted Files. They are used by Windows mobile devices to store encrypted data. MENC files are named FILENAME.GUID.menc. The GUID key lets the encryption filter decrypt the file. MENC files are designed to be decrypted by the device that created them. So MENC files can be transferred to a PC but may not decrypt.
Microsoft created the MENC format for Windows Mobile. MENC files store private, encoded data. To open them requires encryption software like OpenSSL.
If the device can decrypt the file, it hides the menc extension. This file type is obsolete and no longer supported. Obsolete formats are typically old system files, discontinued software, or replaced document versions.
