Markdown is a plain-text file format. The .md and .markdown extensions are just text files written in Markdown syntax. GitHub displays the contents on the home page of your repo if you have a Readme.md. You can edit Readme.md in GitHub itself by clicking and finding the edit button.
The MD file extension can store Moneydance financial data. It contains transactions, budgets, accounts, and related data. Newer versions use .MONEYDANCE instead.
MDCD files are created by Sharkport. It is a PlayStation 2 accessory that copies saved games to share between players. These files contain PS2 saved games that can convert to other formats.
Programs open MD files to extract the contents. Deark and MDCD are examples. Sharkport now also uses the .PS2 extension for saved games.
You can process Markdown files into HTML, PDF or other formats. Markdown has a lightweight syntax for formatting text as plain text. It is not meant to replace HTML.
The .md extension associates primarily with Chaos Desktop. It is a document management program that creates metadata from templates. The files it creates use the .md suffix.
Moneydance .md files store financial data like transactions, budgets, accounts, and investments. They are application/octet-stream mime-type files without specific magic bytes or strings.
