LBRN allows users to save LightBurn designs, close, and reopen them for editing. To create and save a LBRN file in LightBurn, select File → New, create the design, then File → Save or Save As. To open a LBRN file in LightBurn, File → Open. LBRN files may also export to Illustrator .AI, AutoCAD .DXF, and .SVG in LightBurn, File → Export.
Windows examines the filename extension when you double-click to open a file. If Windows recognizes the extension, it opens the file in the associated program. When Windows does not recognize an extension, you receive a message to select an app to open the .lbrn file. It means the operating system does not have a default app for the .lbrn type.
The .lbrn2 format uses simpler syntax, making it smaller and faster to load, especially with large files. XML has overhead. XML, the LightBurn format, has overhead. It does not matter much for user options and layers. But shapes make a complex file with many shapes a very large file.
