JPW files are text files created by Esri for use in ArcReader. They outline image size, distortion, rotation, and coordinates. On Windows, right click a JPW file. Select “Open with” then another app. Check “Always use this app for JPW files”. On Mac, right click a JPW file. Click “Open with” then select an app. Check “Always Open With”. On Linux, right click a file. Choose “Open with” then select an app.
To view JPW files, use ArcReader from Esri. You can also check Esri’s site for details. Some tips: Select and install software supporting JPW files. Right click the file. Click “Open with” and choose a program. Check “Always use this app”. Update your normal JPW app if needed.
Scan JPW files for viruses with Norton or similar software. Many JPW files only have text so are viewable in other apps too. To associate JPW files in Windows, right click one. Select “Open with” then “Choose another application”. Select an app and check “Always use this app for JPW files”.
