JPF files store high-quality images for archival purposes. To open a JPF file, use a dedicated JPF viewer or Apple Preview 11. JPF files typically store digital photos. They may store satellite maps or medical scans. The JPEG committee created the JP2 format in 2000 to replace JPEG. However, JPEG remains favored. Most JPEG 2000 images use .JP2, .JPX or .J2K extensions.
If QuickTime doesn’t open JPF files, update it. New versions may add JPF support. All formats handled by older QuickTime versions should open in new ones.
JPF defines extended decoding to reconstruct compressed images. It specifies a container to store metadata. It provides guidance to convert images to compressed data.
