.IMD File Extension

IMD files exist as 3 different types. Please find information about each of them below.

IMD files store an exact copy of a floppy disk image. They include information about the disk format. ImageDisk creates IMD files from various floppy disk formats compatible with PC 765 controllers and drives.

The IMD file extension has three file types, mostly as a GIS image metadata format. Four programs can open IMD files, especially ESRI’s ArcGIS software. IMD files store georeferencing data like coordinates and location information for GIS images. Both desktop and mobile devices can view and sometimes edit IMD files depending on the software. IMD files are not very common in most user’s file stores.

IMD files store GIS image metadata. The default software to open IMD files is ArcGIS. ArcGIS is GIS software from ESRI. ArcGIS has Basic, Standard and Advanced licenses. IMD files are not meant to be accessed by users.

IMD files associate with Windows GIS software. The recommended software is ArcGIS Desktop. The Esri website has information on ArcGIS Desktop, IMD and other supported formats.

IMD files classify as GIS files. They store georeferencing data for raster images like GeoTIFFs. They map GIS images onto real-world locations. Many Windows programs like ERDAS IMAGINE can open IMD files.

ImageDisk can create IMD files from various floppy formats compatible with PC 765 controllers. PyImageDisk can also create and edit IMD files. Some Windows programs like ImageDisk can open IMD disk image files.

IMD files classify as GIS Files. ArcGIS Desktop mainly supports this format from Esri. IMD files may show on other systems but won’t work. A common problem is IMD files open in odd programs. This fixes by associating IMD with the right program.

The imd file extension is used by ImageDisk to store disk images of floppy disks created in Microsoft Windows. This format is obsolete and no longer supported. How can I convert imd files? We hope this page is helpful.

ImageDisk extracts and archives floppy disk data. The imd format stores the disk image and format information. Imd files are typically created by ImageDisk, an MS-DOS utility, from various pc floppy disk formats. pyImageDisk can also create and edit them.

Imd files store an exact copy of the floppy disk image including format details. ImageDisk creates them from compatible 765 controller and drive disks.

While rare, imd files have 3 known uses: ImageDisk disk images, QuarkImmedia documents, and UCDOS input method drivers. Different software may use the same extension for different data types.

ImageDisk is no longer supported. Similar formats are: cdmedia, wmt, xva, disc, toc, wii. Microsoft VisioModeler also uses .imd dictionaries.

Other programs that open imd: ImageDisk itself, Caseware IDEA. Check the file type details to see if it works with GIS file programs. Or download a compatible tool from the developer’s website.
