An HQM file stores quest data for Minecraft’s Hardcore Questing Mode mod. It includes the quest map, lives left, and rewards. HQM files generate when you install the mod and start a quest. To open an HQM file, right click it. Click “Open with” and “Choose another app”.
Windows checks the file extension to open files. If Windows recognizes the extension, it opens the file in the associated program. With unfamiliar extensions, you see “Select an app to open this file”. Windows lacks a default program for that file type.
When you double-click a file to open it, Windows checks the filename extension. If it recognizes the extension, it launches the associated program. Otherwise, you get the message to select an app for that file.
