Template file formats have a file extension indicating they are a starting point to create other files. These types of files are usually shown on the application’s Save As dialog box. Microsoft Word allows creating layout and content templates. A layout template is a style guide with file styles and explains how to use the styles.
Pages shows default TEMPLATE files and any templates a user made. To save a Pages document as a template: Select File → Save as Template. Add to Template Chooser adds the template to your My Templates list. Alternatively, Save saves the template to your computer.
