An FDB file contains a family tree database created by Legacy Family Tree. It has information on a person’s ancestors and descendants. The file may include birthdates, death dates, and other data on each person.
Legacy Family Tree allows users to create or import a family tree. Users add more information on each family member. This includes stories and identifying details. The family tree saves as an FDB database file.
When searching for a lost Legacy family file: Legacy may have lost the location of the FDB file. But the file remains on your hard drive. The FDB file was renamed or moved. So Legacy can’t find it anymore. You deleted the FDB file. It may be in your Recycle Bin.
Try this when your family file is lost in Legacy: See if the FDB file is still on your hard drive. Check if the file was renamed or moved. Look in the Recycle Bin if deleted.
Legacy 2 files use the Jet 2 database format. Jet 2 files work in Access 2.0 through 2007. They work in any Legacy version. They don’t work in My Family Tree 64-bit. No 64-bit Jet 2 driver exists. The Jet 2 structure is undocumented.
Different programs open different file extensions. Data files should open FDB files. Right click the FDB file and check its properties for the file type. FDB files are usually Data Files.
