What is a .ENP file extension? The ENP file extension indicates an EndNote Preferences File. Older versions of EndNote citation management software used ENP files to store program preferences set in the Edit → Preferences menu. This allowed transferring preferences between EndNote installations. Recent EndNote versions instead save preferences to the Windows registry.
Files with the ENP extension may be used by programs on Mac OS and Windows platforms. EndNote, developed by Thomson Reuters, is the most popular program that handles ENP files. However, 1305 other Settings Files types also use the ENP extension.
To open an ENP file on Windows, right-click the file, click “Open with” and select another program. Check “Always use this app” to associate that program with ENP files. On Mac, right-click the file, click “Open with” and select another program. Check “Always Open With” to set the association. On Linux, right-click the file and choose “Open with” to select a program. On iPhone, simply tap the file to open it.
Some ENP files are ZIP archives encrypted with the Entelligence program instead of standard Zip encryption. If you know the password, use the Entrust PasswordUnprotect utility to decrypt these files. Otherwise you need Entrust software that handles ENP files to open them.
