A DST file contains drawing sheet information for AutoCAD. The Sheet Set Manager tool creates these sheet sets. The drawing layouts are stored separately in DWG files. When a DST file opens in AutoCAD, sheet names display as shortcuts in the Sheet List. Clicking these views the associated DWG layout. DST files get saved to the AutoCAD Sheet Sets folder.
You can open DST files with AutoCAD on Windows and Mac. They associate drawing sheets from multiple DWG files for delivery to users. The files themselves do not include the layouts. Instead, they link to the location of layouts in separate DWG files.
In networked environments, team members need access to the associated DWG and DWT files. Sheet sets add new sheets through AutoCAD’s Sheet Set Manager. It also manages simultaneous editing by multiple users.
When accessed, these files briefly open and update. The Sheet Set Manager shows a lock icon when a file is in use.

The DST file format encodes stitch patterns and instructions to guide embroidery machines. DST files, developed by Tajima Industries, contain data about stitches, jumps, stops, and thread changes. They outline how to create designs from logos to complex artworks. Unlike image files, DST files focus on machine operations. Programs compatible with DST files run on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android operating systems. The DST format contains a header and body. The maximum header length is 512 bytes. The body uses 3 bytes per command unlike other formats using 2 bytes. DST is one of the most popular embroidery file types. The extension tells computers it is for embroidery designs. DST coding provides instructions for commercial and home machines.
