CRTX files store chart template settings used in Microsoft Office 2007 and later. They apply uniform styles and formatting to multiple charts. To save a chart as a template, select an existing chart and choose “Save as Template” from the “Design” tab.
If a CRTX file does not open in Word despite having the application, create a file association. Right click the file, select Properties, and use the “Change” button. If no application is listed, browse to manually select the program directory.

Introduced in Office 2007, .crtx files contain reusable chart templates for Excel and other programs. The default software to open them is Microsoft Excel.
