A .CRDOWNLOAD file appears when a download begins. Google Chrome stores the file in your Downloads folder with the extension on the end of the name. For a file named movie.mp4, it will be movie.mp4.CRDOWNLOAD.
To open the file, delete the .crdownload extension. Then attempt to open the original filename, like movie.mp4. Since it is a partial file, it may have issues. But depending on the file type, you may extract useful information.
If you can’t resume the download, delete the CRDOWNLOAD file. Then redownload the file via the web browser.
Microsoft Edge Chromium also creates CRDOWNLOAD files now. This extension is specific to Chromium-based browsers, like Chrome. It means “Chromium download.”
Chrome creates crdownload files during downloads. Then removes the extension when finished. If you see a CRDOWNLOAD with no active download, it likely means the download was interrupted.
You can try to rename the .crdownload to .pdf to open it. If valid, some free readers can open it. Google created this extension.
