The simplest way to convert files in a CPGZ archive is to first extract them. Once isolated, use free file converters to change formats. CPGZ is a container holding other files—not meant for direct conversion.
When you open ZIP files in Mac OS X, new CPGZ files get created. The CPGZ file has the same name as the ZIP file. When decompressing the CPGZ, it reverts to the original ZIP. This loop happens because the ZIP file is corrupt, maybe from incomplete download or bad compression. To fix, re-download the ZIP.
CPGZ files use CPIO archiving and GZIP compression, like TGZ files use TAR and GZ. CPIO compression is common in Unix—Mac and Linux. In both, use ditto commands to create and extract CPGZ files.
