The bak2 file extension is associated with Microsoft FrontPage. FrontPage is web design software for Windows. The bak2 file stores data used by FrontPage. The file type is not meant to open directly. There is no software to open and work with it directly. The file type likely caches temporary files. As far as known, this file type can’t convert to other formats.
The bak2 extension may create backup file versions. It would represent the second backup version. Other programs like Crysis use bak2 extensions. Crysis backs up .cry map level files. If the cry file corrupts, rename the bak2 extension to cry.
You can delete the string before extensions from the file name. Open it as a shipworld file in Starbound. The bak2 files locate in the Starbound player directory. On Windows, right-click the file. Select open with and choose another app. If desired application does not appear, look for other applications.
