To install an extension in Aseprite, click “Edit > Preferences > Extensions” then “Add Extension”. Select a .aseprite-extension or .zip file. After installing the extension, it will unzip into the extensions folder under configuration.
An extension/plugin is a .zip file. Aseprite can recognize and load them more easily if they are renamed with a .aseprite-extension file extension instead. The contents of an extension file vary. But at a minimum, they must contain the package.json file.
The structure of an extension depends on its purpose. But ASEPRITE-EXTENSION files are ZIP files with a .aseprite-extension extension. This helps Aseprite recognize and load them. The contents differ based on the extension’s purpose.
You can install an ASEPRITE-EXTENSION in Aseprite on any platform:
1. Select “Edit → Preferences → Extensions”.
2. Click “Add Extension”.
3. Open your ASEPRITE-EXTENSION file.
To view contents, rename an ASEPRITE-EXTENSION to a .zip file. Then decompress it with a Zip utility.
