To create a Live Clip, drag an audio or MIDI clip to Live’s Browser. Drop it into the Current Project, User Library or any folder in Places. This saves the clip with a .alc extension. Saving a MIDI clip copies the pattern, device chain, clip settings and automation. Saving an audio clip manages copying the clip’s sample based on the Collect Files on Export setting. It saves the device chain, clip settings and automation.
In the Browser, select a Live Clip. Click the “Click to Preview” field or hit the right arrow key to preview.
Ableton Live supports the ALC format. It is the most used program to handle such files. 2 other tools may also be used. More information about ALC files or Ableton Live is on its website. Programs which support ALC files are listed by 2 operating systems.

Ableton Live also creates ALC files. These contain audio metadata to speed up using the clips. However, Ableton Live keeps imported files like WAVs in their original format. It only creates ALCs when you edit and save WAVs to your library.
ALC files associate with other software too, including Alteryx, Alchemy, and Norton Internet Security. Overall, ALCs categorize as either audio or data files. Both desktop and mobile devices can view and sometimes edit them.
To fix issues opening ALCs, update the application you normally use for them. On our site, learn more about ALC extensions. See what can open, view, or convert them. We list all software supporting Dynamics AX Label Descriptions. And explain file specs like MIME-types for ALCs.
