An ACSM file contains data to activate and download an eBook. ACSM files allow Adobe Digital Editions to manage and read eBooks and digital publications. These files also authorize Adobe DRM-protected content and enable users to legally download and read purchased eBooks.
ACSM files are not standard eBook files. They communicate with Adobe servers but do not contain text to open and read like EPUB or PDF formats. They only provide download data to access DRM-restricted eBooks but there is no eBook “locked inside”. Most Digital Editions users will not see an ACSM file. Finding an ACSM file likely means the eBook download was interrupted.
