A file extension tells you the file type. It also tells Windows what programs can open the file. When that program is no longer on your PC, you may get an error trying to open the file. AB1 files contain DNA sequence data from scientific instruments. The contents include the DNA base sequence and an electropherogram. View them with a DNA viewer program.

Install SnapGene to open AB1 files. After installing, AB1 files should open with it by default. Primarily AB1 files are DNA Electropherogram files from Heracle software. Data shows AB1 files are popular in China, often used by Windows 10 with Chrome. Chromas is a program to open and display AB1 files. It allows exporting data to other formats. Geneious analyzes and visualizes AB1 files on Windows, Mac and Linux.
If the AB1 file won’t open correctly, try a different program. If still issues, possible problems: file corruption, registry issues, incomplete app installs, malware infection, insufficient hardware resources, outdated drivers. Also check the file extension is typed correctly. Some are very similar to AB1.
