What is MJ2 File?
The MJ2 file format was developed by Adobe Systems when releasing Adobe Premiere Pro CC software. MJ2 files are popular with US Windows 10 users of Google Chrome browser.
MJ2 is a Motion JPEG 2000 video file for motion sequences of JPEG 2000 images and audio, based on MP4 and QuickTime format. Filename extensions are .mj2 and .mjp2. MJ2 was first defined in 2001 by ISO JPEG 2000 Standard Part 3, ISO/IEC 15444. It is now defined by ISO/IEC 15444-3:2007 and 15444-12 which define the JPEG 2000 base media format for timed media data.
An MJ2 file contains a sequence of JPEG 2000 .JP2 image files and may also contain audio. MJ2 files resemble MP4 and MOV files. In late 1990s and early 2000s, JPEG developed the JPEG 2000 image compression standard and Motion JPEG 2000 video format, also known as MJ2 or MJP2. MJ2 videos have JPEG 2000 images for each frame coded independently without inter-frame coding, unlike MPEG.
The MJ2 format is in JPEG 2000 (PART 3) standard, ISO/IEC 15444-3. MJ2 files are JPEG2000 “movies” common on Windows. mjp2 extension is preferred on Mac. MIME type is video/mj2.
MJ2 files can be opened with MPlayer. Some video converters can transform MJ2 video to other formats. MJ2 file category is Video Files. The MJ2 file extension has support on 3 operating systems. The number of programs supporting and opening MJ2 files differs by operating system.
