The .mq5 file extension is created by MetaQuotes Software. Files with the .mq5 extension are MetaQuotes Language 5 Source Code files. The MQ5 file format is compatible with the Windows operating system.
To open and edit a .mq5 file requires MetaEditor. MetaEditor is included with MetaTrader for analyzing and trading stocks, forex, futures, and CFDs. MetaEditor enables creating trading robots and technical indicators.
To compile a .mq5 file open the source file in Navigator and select File -> Compile. If no errors appear the compilation completes and an .ex5 file is created. Errors appear in the Errors tab.
The compilation process includes lexical scanning, parsing, semantic analysis, code generation and code optimization. Right click on an .mq5 file and select Open with to choose another program to open it. On iPhone tap the .mq5 file to open it with another program.
