The bak3 file stores backup data created by Crysis game. A bak3 file extension relates to Crysis, a 3D first person shooter game. The file contains backup data. You cannot open this file manually. The game accesses it automatically. These game files cannot convert to other formats.
Another use of the bak3 extension backups BAK2 files. BAK2 files back up .CRY map files. If the CRY file corrupts, rename the bak3 file extension to .cry. This replaces the corrupt CRY file.
A BAK3 file may also backup Starbound game data about a spaceship or player character. The backups help recover information after a crash or corrupt SHIPWORLD or PLAYER file.
On Windows, View software creates a BAK file each time you save a scene. The third backup uses the bak3 extension. You control the maximum number of backups in View settings.
If your CRY file corrupts, you can restore data. Rename the bak3 file extension to .cry.
Thousands face issues opening BAK3 files daily. If installed programs don’t open the BAK3 file, right-click the icon. Open with another program. Check “Always use this program”. Windows will then open BAK3 files with that program automatically.
Multiple programs use the BAK3 extension for backups. But most BAK3 files are incompatible between programs. Crysis and View software created the Crysis Backup BAK3 format. If a Crysis Backup file exists, it likely created in Crysis. Our BAK3 tools include file openers, converters, viewers and editors.
