A .masseffectsave file extension contains saved Mass Effect games. Mass Effect creates it. View contents by renaming to .zip and decompressing.
Existing Mass Effect 2 characters keep extra fuel and probes from upgrades if fully stocked. The Normandy SR-2 has 1500/1000 fuel and 60/30 probes after Freedom’s Progress.
Imported characters also keep all weapons, armor, and are the same level.
Possible problems opening .masseffectsave files: corruption or lacking required software.Install software that supports these files.
Open with Mass Effect’s Load Game option. Can’t convert to other formats – .masseffectsave is proprietary.
Manually save as ProfileXX_AutoSave.MassEffectSave or ProfileXX_QuickSave.MassEffectSave where Profile is player and XX is number.
In addition to plot decisions, Mass Effect 3 imports from Mass Effect or Genesis decisions imported into Mass Effect 2.
Files not stored in editable form but can manually edit player.sav and state.sav containing player location and game state info.
