The WiX Windows Installer uses the wixproj file extension. The files contain XML installation project data. WiX creates MSI or MSM Windows installation packages. Files with the wixproj extension are used by the WiX Windows Installer software. The files contain installation project information. Windows Installer XML is the most used program for working with WIXPROJ files.
Files with the WIXPROJ extension may be used by Windows programs. The Misc Files subset comprises various file formats including the WIXPROJ extension. On Microsoft’s website you can find detailed information about Windows Installer XML, WIXPROJ and other supported file formats.
One way to create a WIXPROJ file is to type “msbuild projectfile.wixproj” at the command line. If WiX is installed, Visual Studio will create a standard msbuild project file. WIXPROJ files can also be created and edited using a text editor.
WiX Toolset and Microsoft Visual Studio are preferred to open WIXPROJ files. In Visual Studio, go to File > Open. Navigate to the .wixproj file, select it, and click Open.
