The M64 file format is used by the Mupen64 emulator to save gameplay recordings. Mupen64 creates an M64 file when the user selects “Utilities → Movie” in the emulator. M64 files do not contain actual video data.
You can only open M64 files with Mupen64, available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Select “Utilities → Movie” in Mupen64 to play an M64 file.
If your system does not open M64 files, install Mupen64 or another program supporting the format. Also ensure the file is not corrupted and registry entries link correctly to the file. Other issues may include an incomplete Mupen64 installation, malware infection, or insufficient system resources.
The M64 format is one of over 1,500 Game File types. Most are incompatible. Mupen64 developed this format to store its gameplay recordings. Our M64 tools allow viewing, editing, converting, merging, splitting, and comparing these files without installation.
