The rra file extension is associated with Windows Installer temporary files. When a file is in use (“locked”) at install time and the installer wants to overwrite it, the new file is written to a rra file. The rra named file is notified to rename on next reboot to where it should have been installed.

Previous versions of RAR split large archives into several smaller files, creating a “multi-volume archive”. Numbers were used in file extensions of the smaller files to sequence them. The first file used .rar, then .r00, and then .r01, etc.
