It is used for playing musical compositions. The PLY file extension can also refer to a Polygon Model File. This is a 3D image format created using the Polygon File Format. It describes objects as collections of polygons. PLY files contain a header followed by vertices specifying polygon shapes. They are used by various 3D programs and may be text or binary. PLY files principally store 3D data from scanners. Scanalyze software uses PLY for triangle mesh data. Windows will find programs to open PLY files. If not, install software supporting PLY. Viewing file metadata with PLY Viewer is safe.
