TopSolid design documents store CAD objects and drawings. They are used by TopSolid software for project management and CAD. They also store 3D shapes from CAD drawings designed in TopSolid or other programs.

We know TOP files store digital ink graphics for Waltop. We don’t yet know details of these file contents and uses. Every format has a unique extension and signature. For proper opening, the extension must match the format. Detailed analysis finds the format and program.
Seven programs relate to TOP files, notably Gromacs. They fall into seven file types, mainly the Gromacs topology format. TOPs are usually data files. Others are CAD or 3D image files. Windows, Linux and Macs open them.
