SDOC files are created by Samsung Notes, a note-taking app on Samsung devices. Before 2020, notes were saved as SDOC files. SDOC files are not text files. They are Zip-compressed archives containing the text, images, and other files in a note.
In 2020, Samsung replaced the SDOC format with SDOCX. Now, when users open SDOC files in Samsung Notes, the app converts those files into SDOCX files. Users can manually convert SDOC files to SDOCX in Samsung Notes’ settings menu.
Without Samsung Notes, you cannot open an SDOC file. You will see messages like “Windows cannot open this file.” An SDOC file locks so only authorized users can view it. SDOC files can be viewed with Oracle IRM Desktop if you have the rights.
To transfer Notes to another Samsung phone, open Samsung Notes and long press to select notes. Tap Share, choose Share as SDOC and select how to share. The SDOC file can only be accessed from Samsung Notes.
